Description

This True Red Mica is beautiful and satiny. Most red colours morph to pink, orange or become dull in cold process soap. Finding a true red colourant that survives saponification is the holy grail of cold process soap makers. Your search is finally over! This is a true red mica with great results in cold process soap and other applications.

Mica is a coloured Powdered Pigment which is non-bleeding, that is, provides unblurred lines of colour in soap and is great for swirling. All of our mica colours have been tested and are non-morphing in cold process soap (ie: the colours do not morph into a muddy colour and will survive the saponification process). In melt and pour soap mica has a shiny pearlescent appearance. It can also be used to colour bath bombs and can be used as a shiny coating on the outside of bath bombs as well. This pigment is lip-safe and may be used in lip balm or lipstick products. It can also be used to add pigment to handmade nail polish and other personal care and household uses.

Colour morphing is not a problem in melt and pour soap since saponification has already taken place. Additionally, the shiny pearlescent appearance of the mica is discernable in melt and pour soap and is especially sparkly in clear melt and pour soap.

Mica can be used to colour bath bombs and it can also be used as a nice, shiny coating on the outside of bath bombs. It can also be used to add pigment to lip balm, lipstick, nail polish and in other personal care and household uses.

Usage Instructions:

In cold process or hot process soap pre-mix the mica in a little oil or glycerine prior to adding it to the main batch of soap.
Mica can be added directly to melted melt and pour soap.
In lip balm application, melt down the base ingredients and add a small pinch of mica and stir thoroughly. Continue this process with additional mica until the desired colour depth is reached.
When making bath bombs, premix the coloured powder in a little polysorbate 80 or wetting agent prior to adding to the dry ingredients. It can also be used as a shimmery coating on finished bath bombs.
We recommend that you conduct a test batch with any new colours to assess their suitability for your application.

Soap Tests & Colour level:

We tested this true red mica in cold-processed soap. It was shown to be non-bleeding and non-morphing. Please see the images within this listing to see our test results.
We used approximately 2g pigment per 100g of raw soap for a strong result.
Use a lower percentage if you would prefer a lighter or pastel shade. You can also lighten the colour by using a little titanium dioxide or white mica.
We recommend that you conduct a test batch with any new colours to assess their suitability for your application.

We also have a neon red pigment for sale.
